Characteristics of a thrillers

A thriller is a fast-paced novel full of conflict, tension, suspense, unexpected twists, and high stakes. Every single scene and element in a thriller is meant to propel the action forward, test the characters, and take the readers on a roller coaster ride that will leave them on the edge of their seats.

There are some typical characters that thriller type movies use. Some of these are: Convicts, Criminals, stalkers, assassins, innocent victims, police, terrorists. 

The effective camera shots used in thrillers are: High-Angled birds view, close up shot, tracking/panning, reverse, tilted angle, extreme long shot, low angle shot, hand held camera shot, POV shot, over the shoulder shots.

Conventions of a thriller include:

Low key lighting, quick cuts, shadows, tense music, changes in angles and shots, montage of shots, protagonist is in mercy of the antagonist 

Locations to film a thriller: Woods, abandoned house, dark open spaces, abandoned places, normal home environment, country side, graveyard, ally ways, religious buildings.
