Opening task and initial reactions

Option 1: Film opening task (video)

Main task: the titles and opening of a new fiction film (to last a maximum of two minutes). Titles should follow the institutional conventions of commercial cinema. The task may be undertaken individually or as a group. There should be a maximum of four members to a group.

All images and text used in the main task must be original, and produced by the candidate(s). Sound should be predominantly original (dialogue and atmospheric sound), though music taken from an acknowledged source may be used as part of the soundtrack. This task should be preceded by relevant preliminary exercises to build up candidates’ skills with equipment and their understanding of conventions.

My Initial reactions

For this project I need to create a short two minute thriller opening scene. My first ideas are that I need to research the type of camera shots they use and background music as in my opinion these two aspects are important in a thriller, to make the audience feel on edge. I need to research what a thriller includes, eg. types of characters, setting, music, camera shots, editing and more. At the moment I don't know much about a thriller type movie/scene, therefore need to research more into it and see what a thriller includes. I want to film a thriller which is intense and has the audience on the edge of their seats, my first ideas on location is a forest as it is quite a scary and unknown location where anything could happen. I need to research conventions of a thriller in order to make mine as effective and like a thriller as possible.
