Reflection and idea development

In reflection to my research I have done, my ideas have changed from the start of my research to now. This is because I have a lot more knowledge on the thriller genre and what the conventions of a thriller include.   In my thriller I will include different camera shots such as , Close-ups, Long shots etc. This will give the audience a better perspective and better understanding of the scene. I now know what is effective in thrillers, this has changed my original idea to my current idea now.  In my thriller, i want to have one main antagonist who is trying to murder three innocent people, the antagonist will use props such as knifes, guns etc. The idea is that all three of the victims try to escape in different ways causing chaos for the antagonist. I want to end my thriller on a cliffhanger leaving the audience to guess what happens next. This is because due to my research i know people find cliffhangers and plot twists in thrillers effective and it is what they enjoy seeing in thrill

Other influences- Music video

Image
A music video that inspires me through the sound, camerawork, editing and Mise-en-scene is ' I took a pill in Ibiza' by Mike Posner. It inspires me as the video tells the audience a story of how his night on this 'pill' went. Sound- The pace of the song matches very well with the peoples movements. Effective to audience when watching as it makes it feel more realistic and they can get a better insight of the songs message. Camerawork and editing- We see him at the start when he takes the pill looking at himself in the bathroom mirror, the camera shows us his POV in the mirror. The movements are in slower-motion then normal giving off the sense to the audience what Mike Posner can feel/see when on the drug he has taken. We see many different shots including extreme close ups of Mike Posner odd cartoonish face. It includes many long shots showing Mike Posner having a good time in a crowd, it is effective as we can see the setting and the atmosphere through how he is feel

Best of all time thrillers

Image
Best of all time thrillers  >  Psycho Psycho is one of the oldest well known and best thrillers of all time, it was made in 1960 and directed by one of the best-known directors Alfred Hitchcock and is known to be one of his best films. It is about a women who steals money from her employer so she can afford to get married. She flees the country and ends up in California in a motel where she is being hunted.  Psycho is one of the best thrillers due to the intense music used, for example, the screeching sounds of the violin gradually getting louder in the shower scene. The thrilling pace and clever camera shots used when effective. Shallow grave is an all time best thriller. It was made in 1994 and was directed by Danny Boyle and won many rewards. It is about three room mates who find their newly accepted fourth room mate dead in bed with a lot of cash beside him. All three roommates get greedy and it all goes downhill for the three of them there. It is a best all time thriller as it

Steve Neale Genre theory

Steve Neale Genre theory  Neale believes that films of a type (genre, like romance or horror) should include features that are similar, so the audience know it is a horror film or romance, but also include features that are different, to keep an audience interested. This is his theory of repetition and difference. In his words “genres are instances of repetition and difference.” He believes that difference is essential as if there is no difference the audience will not attract the audience. Genres are created through repetition and recognition which lead to expectation and anticipation https://guilsboroughschoolmedia.wordpress.com/2017/08/26/steve-neale-genre/

My top 5 thrillers

Image
My top 5 thrillers Hush is one of my favourites. It includes a woman that is deaf and can't speak, which leaves the audience on edge and integer guessing what she is thinking and guessing her next actions as she tries too fight for her life. The fact that she is deaf and unable to speak makes her very vulnerable to the masked killer. In my opinion the characters in hush shows it is a thriller. I will use ideas from hush such as a vulnerable person trying to fit off an assassin in my piece as I think it is affective and can create some good ideas around those two character types. The platform is about prisoners who are housed in vertical cells watch as their inmates from the upper cells are fed while those below starve. The platform starts at the top with a full table of food, but as the platform goes down, there is less and less food. I like this film as it is more of a psychological thriller, which is different to most other thriller movies. It also represents real life aspects
