Audience reflection

Image
In reflection, my target audiences ages will mostly range from 15-18, meaning I should base my thriller on interests of teenagers and what conventions they like in a thriller.  The gender is a 50/50 split meaning I should include what both men and woman like to see in a thriller. This is a good thing as I can base my thriller on more of a range of sub genres. 4 out of 5 people are male who are 15-18 years, however from 35+ most are female, this means that my thriller should be based on males between ages 15-23. I should consider what both male and female audiences like to see in thriller films I asked this question of 'what ethnic group are you in?' to find out the demographics of my audience. The majority of my audience are white or Asian/ Asian British. Meaning I could include conventions from British and Asian thriller films. I asked these two questions to see what social grade my audience  fits into. My audience has a wide range of industries they work in such as, educatio

Research into fonts

Image
Serif font Serifs originated from the Latin alphabet with inscriptional lettering- words carved into stone in Roman antiquity. In 1734 William Caslon created a typeface which featured straighter serifs and more obvious contrasts between thin and bold stroke. Serif font is used with long passages because it helps the eye travel  across a line. Some examples of serif type fonts are Times New Roman, Garamond, Baskerville, Georgia, and Courier New. Serif font have decorated lines or tapers also commonly referred to as 'tails' or 'feet', and sans serif fonts don't- The word 'sans' in Latin means 'Without' in English. Some examples of sans serif fonts are, Arial, Helvetica, and Tahoma. However the main difference between the two fonts is that the small features on the ends of strokes are known as serifs. Sans serifs do not include the small features on the end of the letters. Serif fonts are easily readable at small body copy sizes, and sans serif fonts r

Film certificates

Before films get published for the public to see at cinemas they must go through BBFC (British film board of film classification). BBFC was founded in 1912 by the film industry and is responsible for the national classification and censorship of films shown at cinemas. There are 6 different ratings that films can be given. U stands for Universal, meaning films rated U should be suitable for children aged 4 and up. Although every child is different so its worth checking the ratings info. PG stands for Parental Guidance. Anyone can watch the film however is different to a U rated film as children under 8 might find something about the film upsetting or parents may think some of the content is unsuitable for younger children.  12A films only relate to films in cinemas, any child under 12 must be accompanied with an adult because the content can be unsuitable for a child under 12. It is the adults decision if they decide the film is suitable for the 12 or under child. 12A and 12 rated film

Thriller film that has inspired me

Image
The joker has inspired me through its sound, camerawork and M-E-S.  Sound In the scene I have linked the joker has sprinted to a toilet after killing 3 people on the train. The reason I am inspired by this scene is because of the way the non diagetic sound of the music plays but the joker can clearly hear it in his own head, this makes the scene so much more powerful as the joker is really dancing to no music. The type of music chosen calms the situation down and is complete opposite to what type of music should be chosen considering what he has just done. This makes the audience feel uneasy as they can see the joker so calm. This scene is where Arthur Fleck starts to die and the Joker is born. When he leaves the bathroom the sound begins to become more intense, with drums added and a faster pace to the music. This is powerful as the audience senses the joker has just been born. The music chosen signals freedom, letting go all the pain you have ever had over so many years and bei

Opening task and initial reactions

Option 1: Film opening task (video) Main task: the titles and opening of a new fiction film (to last a maximum of two minutes). Titles should follow the institutional conventions of commercial cinema. The task may be undertaken individually or as a group. There should be a maximum of four members to a group. All images and text used in the main task must be original, and produced by the candidate(s). Sound should be predominantly original (dialogue and atmospheric sound), though music taken from an acknowledged source may be used as part of the soundtrack. This task should be preceded by relevant preliminary exercises to build up candidates’ skills with equipment and their understanding of conventions. My Initial reactions For this project I need to create a short two minute thriller opening scene. My first ideas are that I need to research the type of camera shots they use and background music as in my opinion these two aspects are important in a thriller, to make the audience feel o
